South Korea boosted their confidence from Saturday night to Sunday morning when they defeated Trinidad & Tobago by a wide margin. Star player Heung-min Son helped his country by scoring two goals and is now very close to becoming the national team's all-time goalscorer. Son, who moved from Tottenham Hotspur last summer, is still waiting for his first goal for Los Angeles FC this season. But, ahead of the WK, the 33-year-old attacker showed that he still has a knack for scoring goals. South Korea's record international player (143 caps) scored his 55th and 56th goals in the last four minutes of the first half and is now set to overtake the great Bum-kun Cha (58 goals). Son found a chance to further reduce the gap to Cha after 57 minutes, but the ball hit the post for his hat-trick. After that, coach Myung-bo Hong, who had been the captain of the 2002 stunt team, replaced several players. Attackers Goo-sang Cho (FC Midtjylland) and Hee-chan Hwang (Wolverhampton Wanderers) further widened the quality gap in the score with two and one goal respectively in the final quarter.
