Why it matters

Wales' victory over Norway has turned things around in Nations League Group A4, giving them a boost in confidence. Now, a win against Denmark would give Wales a chance to avoid last place and strengthen their chances of Euro 2028 qualification. The result of this match may also impact Wales' preparations for the upcoming World Cup 2026.

Craig Bellamy has said Wales' recent win over Norway has thrown "a hand grenade" into their Nations League group as they look for another win against Denmark in Cardiff on Sunday. Wales are bottom of Group A4, although they have taken a boost in confidence after their impressive performance against Norway. Currently, Wales, Norway and Denmark all have the same number of points, but Wales needs a win against Denmark to improve their position. If Wales are able to beat Denmark on Sunday, they could take a big step towards avoiding the last place and also strengthen their chances of Euro 2028 qualification.

Bellamy said that "Portugal are going to win this group, unless there is some disaster." However, he believes that the competition between them and the other two teams has now opened up. He said, "I don't know how the group will remain the same from now on, because that [result] changed everything." Wales came back from behind against Norway and it was their second win in Nations League A. This win was a turning point for them, as it is their first win since November 2025.

Wales now go on to face a Denmark team ranked 21st in the world. “We have to perform like we did against Norway,” Bellamy said. He also admitted that it was important for them to finish above fourth in the group. "We play against teams that are in the first pot, so if we don't have to play any other first pot teams, that would be nice," he said.

Bellamy said that his team's options are limited due to the absence of several players. At this time, Karl Darlow, Joe Rodon, Dillon Lawler and Harry Wilson are all absent. Despite this, Bellamy said he needed to make changes to the team that started against Norway. "If I could pick the players who played against Norway, I would do that every day, but that's not possible," he said.

The match is important for Wales, as it will not only affect their Nations League position but also decide their chances of Euro 2028 qualification.
