Rangers considering reunion with Vaclav Cerny: Why he'd solve attack problem
Rangers are considering a reunion with Vaclav Cerny, who previously spent a successful loan spell with the club. After a stint at Besiktas, Cerny could be available for around £6 million, as Rangers look to strengthen their attacking options.

In a recent discussion on the Orta Cizgi YouTube channel, Turkish journalist Murat Ozen shared a potential transfer update between Rangers and Vaclav Cerny. The Glasgow club are internally considering a reunion with the Besiktas wide attacker in this summer window. The 28-year-old Czech international progressed through the academy ranks of his countryman FK Příbram and then transferred to the academy of Dutch giants Ajax. There, he performed well in the reserve team but remained in sporadic positions in the first team. His move to Utrecht was also not successful, but a loan spell with Twente changed his fortunes. Later, he moved there permanently in the summer of 2021, and after impressive performances in the 2022–23 season, he again transferred to Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg. In 2024, Rangers agreed a fee of around €1.50 million to bring Cerny on loan. Cerny made an immediate impact, scoring 18 goals and 9 assists in 52 games across various competitions. There were rumors of a return to Ibrox the previous summer, but it did not materialize due to the ownership change at the time, the appointment of a new manager and other priority signings. Cerny eventually joined Besiktas at the end of the transfer window, but after 7 goals and 8 assists in 34 matches he could be transferred again. The Black Eagles finished fourth in the league and they would not mind accepting an offer in the region of £6 million for the attacker. Rangers have strengthened themselves in wide and have acquired Mikey Moore, Thelo Aasgaard, Djieidi Gassama and Oliver Antman. But he was lacking influence on the right side and once again secured the services of Andreas Skov Olsen at Wolfsburg. However, the Danish player's form and fitness problems prevented the club from converting his loan into a permanent transfer. Moore has returned to Tottenham Hotspur at the end of his season, and neither Antman nor Aasgaard have managed to live up to expectations as an attacking threat every week. Cerny is predominantly left-footed and is effective as an inverted winger on the right. His finishing, agility and willingness to fight for the jersey have made him a fan favorite at Rangers. He is familiar with the aggression and physicality of Scottish football, and management should move to negotiate with his current employers over the possibility of re-linking him to Ibrox.
