Sky Sports and Guinness have launched a significant new accessibility initiative for Premier League coverage, including live subtitles for all key matches and live descriptive audio commentary for selected matches. Live descriptive audio commentary developed specifically for visually impaired fans. It differs from traditional audio description, as it provides continuous description of the match action, which is closer to traditional radio commentary. This enhanced commentary feed helps fans understand the pace of the game, key moments, atmosphere and on-pitch action.

The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) has been instrumental in the development of this initiative, ensuring that the service meets the needs of blind and partially sighted fans.

Through the live subtitle service, fans will be able to follow live commentary, analysis and on-screen dialogue for all major Premier League matches. This feature will make the coverage more accessible to viewers who are hard of hearing.

The coming together of these two services is an important step in making live sports more accessible to a wider audience.

Using these services is very simple. Fans can enable live descriptive audio commentary using Sky Voice Control. They have to go to the settings and select the required option. Live subtitles can also be enabled in a similar manner.

The initiative aims to strengthen the partnership between Sky Sports and Guinness 0.0, to make football accessible to more fans. Fans can check on Sky if descriptive audio commentary is available on a match by simply opening their TV Guide and scrolling through the programs. The AD logo will appear near the program's title, indicating that this feature is available.

What will happen next

Starting from October 10, these services will be available for all major Premier League matches. On the first weekend, the features will be implemented in the match between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, as well as the clash between Liverpool and Manchester City.
