Portugal performed brilliantly in their first match without Cristiano Ronaldo. Against Denmark, coach George Jesus' team recorded its third consecutive win, winning 4–2. Joao Cancelo, Gonzalo Ramos, Vitinha and Joao Felix scored goals in this match. "Whatever happened, it did not affect our team's performance," Gonzalo Ramos said after the match. But it is clear that Ronaldo's situation is still complicated.

In recent hours, many information have been emerging about the controversial moves made by Ronaldo. Ronaldo, after being on the bench for 90 minutes in the match against Norway, decided to leave his Portugal retirement after hearing that he would be on the bench again against Denmark and returned to Saudi Arabia.

Coach Jorge Jesus and Portuguese Football Association president Pedro Proança tried their best to dissuade Ronaldo, even trying to persuade him at Copenhagen airport, but Ronaldo stuck to his decision and flew to Madrid on his private jet.

Spanish journalist and Ronaldo's friend Edu Aguirre reported that Ronaldo felt betrayed by Jesus. He said, "On Tuesday night there was a meeting between the federation president, Jesus, and Ronaldo. Jesus apologized to Ronaldo for letting him warm up for 30 minutes but not fielding him. He not only apologized privately, but also promised to apologize publicly."

But Jesus said something else in the press conference, which further increased Ronaldo's anger. Ronaldo believes this is cheating. Now, while it looks increasingly likely that this could be Ronaldo's last chapter with Portugal in Copenhagen, he could also face a major punishment. According to Portuguese federation rules, if a player leaves a national activity without a justified reason, he can face a punishment of one to six months.

What will happen next

Ronaldo's situation is still complicated, and it will be interesting to see whether he will return to his team or not. This could have an impact on Portugal's performance in the upcoming matches, especially if Ronaldo's absence continues. Coach George Jesus will now have to rework his strategy, so that the team's success can continue.
