Newcastle United have signed defender Amar Dedic from Benfica for around £30million. The Bosnia-Herzegovina international joined the club on a five-year deal following a medical on Tyneside on Monday. He expressed his delight at reuniting with his former manager Matthias Jaisle, with whom he won the Austrian title at Red Bull Austria in 2023.

“It's a special feeling and it's a really big honor for me to join Newcastle United,” he said after announcing the move on Tuesday, his 24th birthday. "I'm very happy to be here and can't wait to play for the club and the amazing fans. Working with Matthias again was a big factor for me. We know each other well. Newcastle were looking for a new right-back following the departure of the experienced Kieran Trippier, who joined Wolverhampton for a free transfer this summer.
