Background

Vinicius's performances this season have been worrying, with him scoring only one goal in 11 matches. His numbers are a decline from last season, when he scored 22 goals and 14 assists. Mourinho has made it clear that no player in the squad is certain to be in the starting 11, leaving Vinicius having to work even harder to secure his position.

Why it matters

Real Madrid's win strengthened their position in the Champions League, especially after they beat RB Leipzig 4-1. Vinicius's performance in this match and José Mourinho's comments on his role show that there is increasing competition in the team. Mourinho has also indicated that Vinicius needs to improve his form, which has been a concern for Real this season.

Key points

• Mourinho: 'Vinicius doesn't know if he's sad or not.'
• Coach José Mourinho commented on Vinicius's performance and discussed his role in Real Madrid's win..

Coach Jose Mourinho expressed satisfaction with his decision to replace Vinicius in Real Madrid's recent win. Real Madrid beat RB Leipzig 4-1, and Mourinho talked about Vinicius's performance. "Vinicius himself doesn't know whether he is sad or not, but I am very happy," he said. He further added that Vinicius always has higher expectations, and must be more decisive. However, Mourinho also said that Vinicius has made a good contribution to the game and has also played a responsible role in defence.

During the match, Vinicius was subbed off in the 69th minute and replaced by Yann Diomande. During this period, Vinicius's performance was not bad, but he did not look as enthusiastic and impressive as before. In contrast, Diomande scored one goal as soon as he came on the field and provided an assist for one goal. This was Diomande's second consecutive good performance in which he played a key role for Real.

Vinicius's performance this season remains a matter of concern for Real Madrid. He has scored only one goal and provided three assists in 11 matches so far, which is much less than last season, when he scored 22 goals and 14 assists. Mourinho said that no player in his team is definitely in the starting 11, so some consideration needs to be given to Vinicius' form.

During the match, Real started to put pressure on Leipzig right from the end of the first half. At the Bernabéu Stadium, goals from Bernardo Silva and Arda Güler gave Real the lead. Diomande then provided an assist for Kylian Mbappé and scored an own goal to seal a 4–1 victory. Leipzig scored only one goal, which came on an assist from Gomis.

Mourinho also praised Real's other players, such as Silva, who was responsible for the first goal, and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. While he expressed satisfaction with his team's performance, he also raised concerns about a goal, which he did not readily acknowledge. "Everything is not going the way I want for us, but the players are getting better," he said. Mourinho also said that Real have won their last four matches, scoring four goals in three of those matches.

Now Real Madrid is getting ready for El Clasico, which will be played against Barcelona on October 25. However, Mourinho said he did not want his team to be too worried about the match. "El Clasico is just another match in La Liga, although it is different from other matches. We are not satisfied and are moving forward," said Mourinho.

What will happen next

Vinicius' form will remain under watch as Real Madrid have more important matches to play in the Champions League. It's clear from Mourinho's tactics and Diomande's good performances that there is depth in the squad, which will leave Vinicius feeling pressure to strengthen his position. In the coming matches, Real Madrid will need consistency to maintain their performance and advance in the Champions League.
