Tunisia plans to appoint Hervé Renard as its new head coach after a disappointing start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The North African team suffered a heavy 5–1 defeat against Sweden in their first World Cup match, necessitating the dismissal of Sabri Lamouchi.

At the moment, the Tunisian Football Association has not yet officially confirmed this situation, but there are already several reports indicating that a coaching change is coming soon. Romain Molina reports that Tunisia have chosen Renard to lead the "Eagles of Carthage" during their World Cup campaign. The 57-year-old coach is one of the most respected coaches in international football and has a wealth of experience at African and global level.

Renard is tipped to pull off a major upset by defeating Argentina at the World Cup 2022 in Qatar. Her international coaching career includes experience in countries such as Morocco, Zambia, Angola and Ivory Coast, as well as with the French women's national team.

Renard has also achieved significant success in African football, having experience of winning the Africa Cup of Nations with two different countries. He has also gained considerable experience at club level with Cambridge United, Sochaux and Lille.

Lamouchi's departure is a big blow, as he had not been in the position very long. He was appointed following Tunisia's last-16 exit at the Africa Cup of Nations in January, and has managed only one win in his tenure with the national team. After the defeat against Sweden, Lamouchi admitted that the performance had fallen far below expectations and called on his players to respond positively in upcoming matches. "It's a tough loss. It's painful," Lamouchi said. "It's really tough to start the competition with this bad defeat. We have world-class players, and that's something you can't recover from. We made too many mistakes. We have to maintain our identity. We need to respond. We have to present a better image.
