Historic agreement between FIFA and FIFPRO: all legal actions withdrawn
FIFA and FIFPRO have reached a historic agreement, ending all legal disputes between the two bodies. This agreement establishes a new social dialogue and governance framework in football.
A historic agreement has been reached between FIFA and FIFPRO, putting an end to their long-running disputes. Under this agreement, a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been established, which will come into force immediately and will remain valid till 31 December 2031. Key points of this agreement include the establishment of a modern governance framework based on social dialogue, which will strengthen representation in FIFPRO's institutional structures.
Through this agreement, FIFPRO and its continental departments have decided to withdraw all existing legal proceedings against FIFA. Furthermore, FIFPRO will ensure that its member associations also do not participate in any legal processes against FIFA.
An important part of this agreement is the establishment of a Global Social Dialogue Platform, which will be moderated by FIFA. This platform will promote communication between employers (such as clubs and leagues) and workers (such as players). FIFPRO is recognized as the representative of the players in this forum.
In addition, a new chapter of cooperation between FIFA and FIFPRO will begin, focusing on player welfare, health and safety standards. It will be ensured that decisions regarding player workload and playing conditions are taken on the basis of a collective process.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said, "This agreement marks the beginning of a new era in the relationship between FIFA and FIFPRO. Ensuring the safety and welfare of players is our priority." At the same time, FIFPRO President Sergio Marchi said that this agreement will provide players an important voice in the decision-making process.
Other important aspects of the agreement include the establishment of FIFA's Fund for Professional Players, which will provide financial assistance to players who are unable to collect the salaries owed by their clubs. A total budget of $20 million has been set for 2026-2029.
Under this agreement, FIFPRO and FIFA have also pledged to jointly look after the welfare of players, their rights and adhere to the calendar for international matches. This agreement prioritizes the well-being of players and will play an important role in the development of football.
