Borussia Dortmund lost important points at home against Werder Bremen. Dortmund took an early 2-0 lead in the match, but lost it in the final moments. Joey Werman played 20 minutes in this match, while Yuri Regier made it into the starting eleven. Ludovit Riis played a key role for Werder Bremen and scored a goal.

Dortmund had made a great start to the season, taking 12 points from the first four Bundesliga matches. Last season's runners-up Dortmund had beaten Hamburger SV, Hoffenheim, Paderborn and VfB Stuttgart respectively and went into the international break in good mood. On the other hand, Werder Bremen, who finished 15th last season, had seven points from four matches.

Dortmund had difficulty putting pressure on Werder at the beginning of the match. The biggest chance of the first half came when Marcel Sabitzer took a strong free kick from 25 yards that went wide. More chances were created in the second half. Serho Guirassy chested the ball down for Ethan Nwanari, but Nwanari's shot was blocked. Niklas Fulkrug then missed a great chance to tie the score at 1-1, and Nwanari then tried to score again. His effort was blocked by Werder goalkeeper Karl Heine.

Then, Dortmund coach Niko Kovac decided to bring on Joey Werman, which turned out to be an excellent move. Guirassy set up Daniel Svensson's goal ten minutes from time, and then Verman's corner kick was converted with a header by Nico Schlotterbach.

Both goals looked to be enough for Dortmund to secure their fifth win of the season, but it was not to be. After Dortmund lost the ball, Netherlands' Rice scored from 16 yards to make the score 1–2. Then, in the dying moments of time, Fulkrug also made it 2–2 with a free kick given by the goalkeeper. Yuri Regier was not on the field at the time of this goal, as he was replaced in the 65th minute. Now Dortmund will get time to improve over the next five days as they face FK Bodø/Glimt in the Champions League.

What will happen next

Dortmund now have to rethink their strategy and need to perform better in the upcoming matches. Their next challenge could prove to be a turning point for them, as they need to keep collecting points. On the other hand, Werder Bremen can take confidence from this result and look to improve their position.
