Mikel Arteta has expressed his disappointment at Arsenal's English League Cup exit against Fleetwood Town, where his team lost in a penalty shootout. This result is being considered a major upset in the history of the League Cup. Arsenal included young players in this match, but still they did not win. Arteta said after the match, "I want to congratulate Fleetwood on making it to the next stage and praise him for the way he did it. Today is a very sad day for us."

Arteta praised the players' mentality and said, "I can't question the players' mentality. They fulfilled their responsibilities. We attacked many times, had maximum possession of the ball and created many chances. However, we regret not being able to take those chances. In a situation like this, the result is the same."

During the match, both teams successfully converted their first eight penalties, but Arsenal's Bruno Guimarães' shot was blocked by the goalkeeper. After this, Fleetwood's Connor Hagi put his shot on goal to send his team through to the next stage. "It is true that cup competitions always close the gap between the levels. Especially when the opposition scores the first goal, that gives them more confidence. But we gave them almost no chances in the match and created many chances for ourselves," Arteta said.

Arteta also said he had no objection to the players' sentiment, but clarified that they could discuss their performances. He said, "I don't see any problem in terms of mentality. If that were the case, I would be completely angry here now. I am sad and I think we are all sad. We have a big responsibility to represent this jersey properly. This defeat is not due to the hard work or commitment of the players, but we lacked something, due to which we failed to score more goals per match. This win should have shown us in the result.

What will happen next

Arsenal will now focus on their next league match, where they will need to learn from their mistakes and improve their performance. Arteta hopes that the experience of the young players will make them stronger in the future. After this defeat in the League Cup, Arsenal may need to rethink their strategy.
