Canada recorded its first victory at the FIFA World Cup by defeating Qatar 6–0. This match was played at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver. Canada's leading goal scorer, Jonathan David, scored a hat-trick. Canada had already scored when David scored in the 29th minute to make it 2–0. David scored the second goal in the 45th minute before the end of the first half. In the 46th minute, he completed his hat-trick by scoring the third goal. Also, Silerin scored in the 16th minute and Nathan Saliba scored in the 64th minute. An own goal was also scored for Qatar. During the match, Canadian midfielder Ismail Koné was injured and had to be carried off on a stretcher. Canadian goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau did not have to stop any shots, while Qatar goalkeeper Mahmoud Abunada served four. With this win, Canada has strengthened its position in Group B.
