On June 4, 1950, the Italy national football team begins its journey to the World Cup away to Brazil from Naples. This incident happened a year after the Superga accident, due to which the morale of the team was somewhat weak. Italy, winners of the previous two World Cups (1934 and 1938), took the field this time with a new group. The journey took a total of 16 days, which was decided by the association in view of the players' concerns.

The means of this journey was a motor boat named 'Cyres', which was owned by the Agnelli family. During the voyage, the players suffered seasickness and spent their time playing ping-pong and cards. However, all his soccer balls fell into the sea. The team interrupted to play a friendly match in Las Palmas, where goalkeeper Sentimenti was played as a winger. But this selection did not prove to be correct, as the players arrived in Sao Paulo tired and unprepared.

In the first match, Italy lost 3–2 against Sweden. Next, there was a win against Paraguay, but this win was not enough for them to travel further and they were eliminated from the tournament.
