Inter defender Manuel Akanzi says Kevin De Bruyne can still make a 'significant impact' in Italian football after the Belgian 'did not get the opportunity' in his first season at Napoli. Akanji spoke about his former Manchester City teammate De Bruyne in his recent interview with Gazzetta. He added, "I think he can still have a significant impact in Italian football, absolutely." He said, "Kevin is an extraordinary player and a good friend of mine. This season, he was not lucky because an injury kept him out for a long time. By the time he returned, the title race was already decided. I would like to face Belgium and play against them, because it has not happened very often so far." A few weeks ago, De Bruyne caused controversy in Italy when he said he was happy that Antonio Conte had left Napoli. Italy technical assistant Cristian Stellini hit back, saying the Belgian never showed enthusiasm during his first season at the Stadio Maradona. Napoli are now waiting for Massimiliano Allegri to be released from Milan. Technically, the Italian is still under contract with the Rossoneri, having been sacked at the end of the 2025-26 campaign. Napoli have agreed an agreement with the experienced Italian coach and he is waiting for his contract to expire so he can begin his tenure at the Stadio Maradona.
